Parents, non-parents and students from school districts throughout the state discussed the future of public education in Missouri during a series of community meetings held in January and sponsored by the Missouri Public Education Vision Project. The meetings were designed to get ideas from those groups on the ways Missouri’s public schools can better meet the needs of students and prepare them for their futures.
Reports from the community meetings will be provided to the seven planning groups that continue to meet. The planning groups are focusing on the following topics: Teaching, Learning and Assessment; Supports for Early Learning and Student Success; Human and Organizational Capital; Governance, Leadership and Accountability; Climate, Culture and Organizational Efficacy; Financial Resources; and Physical Resources.
The groups will be meeting again on February 14 in Jefferson City, just prior to the MSBA Legislative Forum to review the reports from the community meetings and begin to develop recommendations in their focus areas. A steering committee made up of school board members and superintendents oversees the project. The goal is to develop a document outlining a vision for Missouri’s public schools by the 2011 MSBA Annual Conference in conjunction with MASA to be held in late September. The Missouri Public Education Vision Project is a joint effort of MASA and MSBA.
